Through the open door, the courtyard breathes stories. The old peach tree stands, a silent guardian of time – four decades rooted in the same soil.
Inside, my aunt, lost in lines only she and memory know. A moment scented with home, with clattering dishes, humming bees, and the warmth of summers past.
So much fades.
And yet – so much remains.

So vieles vergeht.
Und doch – so vieles bleibt.

Château d’eau de Sélestat — where architecture meets history. Built in 1906, this 50-meter neo-Romanesque tower holds 500m³ of water and is still in use today. Inspired by a Dutch design, it once bore an imperial eagle—replaced in 1918 by a Gallic rooster, marking Alsace’s shifting identity.
A striking mix of brick, steel, and symbolism.

Peter Willen, born 1941 in Thun, Switzerland, lives and works in Interlaken.
I found this mixed media piece (dated 1980) from Peter Willen on Ricardo (Swiss online platform). For this artwork he uses materials like jute fabric, wood, cardboard, and rope—painted, glued, and scribbled on—reminding me of Arte Povera. I love its layered, textured quality and colors. It looks like a volcanic eruption ๐ (I’m fascinated by volcanoes—my bookshelf nearby is full of books about them).
Peter Willen began with an abstracted Surrealist style, often using collage. In 1972, he opened a studio in Tovo San Giacomo (Liguria), later moving it to San Marzano Oliveto (Piedmont) in 1986.
From 1975, he focused on intaglio printmaking and overpainting drawings with up to 20 layers of white paint—structured with text and spatial elements, and documented on the back of each piece. By 1985, his use of primary colors became increasingly restrained. From 1987, he turned to color field and monochrome painting.

“I have the peach” = I feel great / I’m full of energy.
“Do you have the potato?” = Are you feeling good too?

Dive In!
28 June 2025 – 4 January 2026
@kunsthauszug
The exhibition “Dive In!” (Eintauchen!) at Kunsthaus Zug offers a platform for artists from the Canton of Zug and Central Switzerland. It creates a space for reflection, interaction, and discussion centered around contemporary art, and strengthens the visibility of the regional art scene.
The central idea: an open invitation to immerse.
At its core, this exhibition invites a descent into symbolic and interior dimensions—a pursuit of truths that transcend mere appearances. It is not simply about what is seen, but about what is felt, intuited, absorbed. These works do not merely present images; they generate spaces—psychic, somatic, emotional.
Allow yourself to be drawn in. Step away from distraction. Relinquish control and yield to the presence of the now. Let the artwork speak—not to your intellect alone, but to the deeper faculties of sensation and awareness. In this encounter, there is release; in this openness, a rare freedom.
The images present works by the following artists:
@nils.nova @studio_judith_albert (Territorium (2021), Côte de Granit Rose (2024), pasdedeux 2022), @nathaliebissig Yvonne Christen Vagner @yfarbe212 (Moosboard |||, Supernovae), @pascalebirchler (Here we are, unchained from the sun, 2022), @denistwerenbold (aesculus, 2020), and @christian_kathriner
Das Kunstwerk «Solve This Captcha: come chat with me» (2016) von @mediengruppe_bitnik zeigt Chatbot-Sprüche als Neontext.
@mfkbern
Being present means truly seeing — colors, shadows, shapes, and fleeting moments. Even the mundane becomes beautiful: a crack in the sidewalk, light on a wall, a tablecloth with its subtle pattern and the play of shadows — each becomes a quiet masterpiece. When we pay attention, banality transforms. The world turns vivid, textured, alive. Everything becomes art.
Chriesisturm & Chriesimärt in Zug – gelebte Tradition seit Jahrhunderten.

Chriesisturm & Chriesimärt in Zug – a living tradition for centuries.
At exactly 12 noon, the historic Chriesigloggä bell marks the start of the Chriesisturm: men with 8-meter ladders, women and children with baskets run through the old town to the Allmend – once a real race, today a joyful spectacle.
Right next to it: the Chriesimärt (Cherry Market). For nearly 400 years, Zug celebrates the taste of summer with fresh cherries, cherry sausage, Zug cherry cake, and the famous Zug Kirsch.

It’s hard to leave a place that feels like a pause from time. I’ll miss the view from the windows – the majestic mountains, waterfalls in the distance, and those tall, gentle trees where birds sing and squirrels play.
A quiet beauty, always there – morning light on the leaves, the sound of wind and water, sometimes the train ๐, and that feeling of stillness you carry with you.
Thank you @kurhausberguen Bergün – for the calm, the inspiration, and the mountain magic. Until next time.

In Bergün (Bravuogn) stands a powerful tower from the 13th century, likely the seat of a vassal of the Lords of Greifenstein. Three original floors and the historic elevated entrance are still preserved. In the early 17th century, the tower was transformed into a clock and bell tower and topped with a baroque onion dome.
Later used as a prison and archive, it now houses the municipal archive. A document from 1615 forbade nearby buildings from blocking the view of the tower clock — a sign of its importance to the village.

Flowing through Bergün is the Albula River, about 36 km long. It begins at the Albula Pass and winds through the valley before joining the Hinterrhein near Thusis. Fed by mountain rain and snowmelt, it shapes the wild alpine landscape and is known for rapid weather shifts and stunning light.

Filisur isn’t just charming — it’s full of stories. Many of its houses are built in the typical Engadine style: thick stone walls, arched doorways, barred windows, and small oriels for watching village life.
What really stands out is the sgraffito — beautiful patterns scratched into the plaster. These decorations were inspired by the Italian Renaissance, brought to the region by Italian master builders, and later spread into the Albula Valley.
No wonder Filisur is called the northernmost Engadine village — it even looks like the setting of Schellenursli, the beloved Swiss children’s book.
A quiet walk through art, history, and Alpine flair.

From Bergün to Filisur, the trail follows the UNESCO-listed Albula Railway — a stunning blend of nature and engineering. The red train winds through tunnels, glides over high viaducts, appearing sometimes above, sometimes below the path. All around: flowers in full bloom, bursting with color.
This masterpiece was built in the early 1900s — much of it by Italian guest workers. They were in high demand in Switzerland and made up a large part of the workforce that built railways, hydroelectric plants, and other major projects. Their work helped shape this incredible landscape.
A walk filled with beauty, color, and quiet history.

Alpine Charm in a Glass
Welcome to the @kurhausberguen Bar – a warm, wood-accented retreat with the timeless elegance of the Belle Époque. Settle into one of our cozy corners and enjoy a quiet moment in good company.
The wine list highlights regional treasures, including my favorite: from the @weingut_heidelberg in Maienfeld, “Elli” Cuvée Blanc – crisp, refined, and full of character, just like the Grisons landscape itself.
Whether it’s a glass of local wine, a classic aperitif, or something new to discover – this is the place to unwind, sip, and savor.

Relaxation Rooted in Tradition
Over a century ago, Bergün was already a destination for wellness and clean-air cures – and the Kurhaus was at the center of it. Built in 1906, just as the Albula railway opened, it was envisioned as a modern Alpine health resort.
Today, the @kurhausberguen revives this legacy with its modern KurBad – a serene wellness oasis surrounded by mountains, larch forests, and the calming sound of the Tuors stream.

Retreats with Character – Salons & Library
The charm of @kurhausberguen lies not only in its dining hall. The house also features elegant salons and a cozy library – perfect for reading, working, or simply unwinding. Whether it’s the Gentlemen’s Salon, Ladies’ Salon, or a small reading room – each space tells its own story, lovingly restored in authentic Art Nouveau style.
On quiet days or when the weather turns, these rooms reveal their unique magic: a peaceful atmosphere, a comfortable armchair, floral arrangements that echo the architecture – spaces full of soul and grace.
The library offers a diverse selection of books: novels, hiking guides, picture books, and historical maps – ideal for planning your next Alpine adventure or simply enjoying a literary escape.
These rooms aren’t just beautiful – they are places of reflection, giving the Kurhaus its distinct character and depth.

A Dining Hall Like a Painting
The dining hall @kurhausberguen is an architectural jewel – a space where Art Nouveau, craftsmanship, and atmosphere blend in rare harmony.
The design reflects the ideals of Jugendstil: clear, functional, elegant – never overloaded, yet full of delicate details. Most striking is the subtle rose motif, found on the ceilings, window frames, and carved into the wooden panels.
To this day, this hall remains the heart of the house – a place that speaks of history while radiating timeless beauty.

Kurhaus Bergün – A House with Soul
In the heart of the Alpine village of Bergün, the Kurhaus has stood since 1906 – a Belle Époque architectural gem.
Built during the golden age of train travel, it welcomed visitors arriving via the newly opened Albula railway (now a UNESCO World Heritage Site), ushering in the era of health-climate tourism. Designed by Zurich architect Jost-Franz Huwyler-Boller, a pioneer of Swiss Art Nouveau, the Kurhaus features elegant proportions, a curved entrance pavilion, and a grand dining hall adorned with rose motifs – hallmarks of Alpine Belle Époque style.
Since 2002, a team of cultural advocates and architects has carefully restored the building under Curdin Conrad, preserving its historic charm.
Today, the @kurhausberguen is a living monument to the Belle Époque – a haven of culture, reflection, and Alpine heritage.
